Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman scored in the first half to hand Nigeria’s Super Eagles a 1-0 win over Angola in the quarter-final match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny stadium.
Atalanta winger continued his fine form and scored the opening goal for Nigeria in the 41st minute after Simon Moses made a brilliant run on the right flank before launching a left-footed shoot into Angola’s net to send Super Eagles into the semi-final.
Angola were close to scoring in the early first 10 minutes of play, but Stanley Nwabali who passed a late fitness test came to the rescue for Nigeria
Lookman’s goal gave the Super Eagles the edge as the first half ended 1-0 in a deserved lead at the halfway stage after dominating the majority of the first half.
The second half resumed with Nigeria pressing for the second goal.
Zini who came on as a substitute hits the post for Angola.
Osimhen caused so many problems for the Angola defense and scored a beautiful header in the 75th minute but his goal was disallowed by VAR.
Nigeria will now play the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final between Cape Verde and South Africa in the semi-final on Wednesday.
