Presidency: Tinubu, Osinbajo test strength, causes uproar at APC convention

Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos state and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are testing strength

Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos state and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are testing strength at the ongoing special convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is as both men who are vying for the presidential ticket of the APC caused uproar upon their arrival at Eagle Square, venue of the convention.

Osinbajo who first arrived received rousing welcome both by delegates and party supporters at the convention.

Barely after a minute, Tinubu also landed and was welcome with tumultuous shots of ‘jagaban! Asiwaju!!.

Kabiru Gaya, a former Governor of Kano state said stakeholders of the party have been able to trim down the list of presidential aspirants of the All Progressives Congress APC to two.

He said only Osinbajo and Tinubu are now remaining in the race.

Gaya who is the chairman, the Progressive Project TPP, an umbrella organization for all pro-Osinbajo support groups disclosed this in an interview with Channels TV.

He said: “they (stakeholders) are still in the process of negotiation. You know during conventions or congresses like this, decisions are taken by the aspirants and even at the last minute, people are still taking decisions. They are trying to trim down.

“All I know is that we believe that the Presidency should go to the South and finally we have agreed to that now so that we can have a northern running mate and win the election.

Coming next was Senate President Ahmad Lawan who is also aspiring for the APC presidential ticket and instead, he was booed by both delegates and suppoters especially those from the south.

Abdullahi Adamu, APC national Monday announced that Lawan was the consensus candidate for the party but that was rejected.
