Mustapha Gubio, the former Borno State commissioner for works, has officially entered the race for the 2027 governorship election. Gubio obtained his N50m All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja on Tuesday.

Reports indicate the forms were collected on his behalf, marking a significant step in his bid for the state’s highest office. The move signals the start of the primary process within the ruling party as candidates begin to declare their intentions for the upcoming transition.

Gubio was accompanied to the collection by several prominent political figures, including Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, who represents northern Borno. Bukar Talba, the member representing the Monguno, Nganzai, and Marte constituency, was also present during the process.

The former commissioner later confirmed the development on his social media timelines. Abdulrahman Bundi, senior technical assistant to Governor Babagana Zulum on new media and print, shared photographs of the event featuring both the governor and Gubio.

Bundi’s post on the matter remained neutral, stating: “No comment, Allah’s choice is the best. Congratulations.” The endorsement or lack thereof from the incumbent administration remains a focal point for political analysts as the race develops.
