Abdulsalam Abdulkareem Zaura, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised the alarm over deteriorating security in Kano’s commercial districts following a violent attack on his convoy. The ambush, which occurred along the Farm Centre axis, left several vehicles vandalised and multiple supporters injured.
The incident took place on Monday as Zaura travelled to the Meena Event Centre to formally declare his candidacy for the Kano Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. According to a statement released by media aide Dahiru Maiwuddadu, suspected hoodlums intercepted the convoy, causing widespread panic before the candidate escaped unharmed.
Escalation at GSM market triggers commercial chaos
Following the initial assault, the attackers reportedly moved towards the popular GSM market in the same vicinity. The shift in violence triggered chaos among local traders and residents until security operatives intervened to restore order.
Zaura expressed his condolences to those affected by the violence and commended security agencies for their prompt intervention. However, he cautioned that recurring attacks near key economic centres pose a significant risk to local livelihoods and international investor confidence.
Calls for investigation and youth engagement
The APC stalwart has called for a comprehensive investigation into the ambush, urging authorities to ensure the perpetrators face justice. He emphasised that unchecked violence could severely undermine the peace and stability of the state.
In an appeal to the public, Zaura urged Nigerian youths to reject violent tactics and embrace lawful political engagement. He reaffirmed his commitment to legislative policies designed to strengthen security frameworks and protect small businesses throughout Kano Central.
The attack has intensified concerns regarding safety in Kano’s primary trading corridors. These anxieties are mounting as political activities gain momentum in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
