Six die as trucks crash into market in Anambra

Anambra State
At least six persons were killed Wednesday in a road crash involving a truck loaded with cement and a tipper at Ibughubu Market, Umuchu, in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
An eyewitness said the two drivers of the vehicles lost their lives in the crash with four other unidentified persons.
Joshua Agbasiri, who claimed to witness the accident, said the vehicles had a head-on collision, while the impact caused them to veer into the market.
“The cement truck was on a high speed. It pushed the tipper to the other side of the market where it destroyed shops and inflicted injuries on some shop owners,” he said.
The trucks also destroyed property worth millions of naira and left scores of traders injured, including the driver mate of the truck.
They also damaged over three shops at the market, including the wares in them.
Chairman of Ubughubu Village, Titus Ike, said the corpses of the deceased had been deposited in the mortuary, while the injured were receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Efforts to reach the state police Command’s spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, at the time of the report were not successful.
