President vows to end abductions, hails release of Kaduna pupils

Tinubu approves consumer credit scheme

President Bola Tinubu says his administration is deploying detailed strategies to ensure that schools remain safe for learning and not lairs for wanton abductions.

The president stated this on Sunday while welcoming the Kuriga school children in Kaduna State who were released by their abductors.

The president also emphasised the importance of collaboration between the federal and state governments for expected outcomes, especially on matters of security.

He commended the Nigerian Army for showing courage, determination and commitment, which led to the rescue of the children, adding that with such courage “criminal elements can be degraded and security restored in our communities.

The president commended the national security adviser, the security agencies, and the Kaduna State government for the dispatch and diligence with which they handled the situation, noting that incipient urgency, meticulous attention, and tireless dedication were critical to optimal outcomes in cases of mass abductions

Tinubu also welcomed the release of pupils of a Tsangaya school in Sokoto State, commending all the parties to the feat for their valiant effort.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State had earlier announced the release of the over 200 Kuriga school children who were kidnapped from the Junior Secondary School in Chikum local government area on March 7, 2024.

Sani expressed appreciation to the president, for prioritising the safety and security of Nigerians and particularly ensuring that the abducted Kuriga school children were released unharmed.

“While the school children were in captivity, I spoke with Mr. President several times. He shared our pains, comforted us and worked round the clock with us to ensure the safe return of the children.

“Special mention must also be made of our dear brother, the national security adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu for his exemplary leadership. I spent sleepless nights with him finetuning strategies and coordinating the operations of the security agencies, which eventually resulted in this successful outcome, Sani said.
