Police arrest ritualist over attempt to slaughter 10-year old boy in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command, at the weekend, said it had arrested a suspected ritualist in Ilorin, the State Capital, having received a distress call of an attempted culpable homicide.

According to information received from the Police at C Division, on the 2nd of July 2024 at about 1800 hrs, a report was received from Onidoko Police Post indicating that at about 1730 hrs, an incident occurred in the Abab Oke-Foma Area of Ilorin.

A release by Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer, said “it was reported that a 10-year-old boy, Akeem Nurudeen, resident of Abab Area of Abayawo, Ilorin, was hawking pepper when he was lured into a room by a suspect identified as Isiaka Adeniyi, aged 46, from Ifedapo Community, Oke-Foma Area, Ilorin.

The suspect allegedly lured the victim under the pretext of purchasing pepper, but instead covered the victim’s face with cloth and attempted to slaughter him with a knife.

“Thanks to the swift action of vigilant community members, the suspect was apprehended and brought to the station. Preliminary investigation is currently underway, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough and discreet investigation.”
Similarly, a gang of four kidnappers,.said to be terrorizing Ughelli axis of Delta State, were arrested by the State Police Command four months after they had kidnapped and murdered a male resident (name withheld) in the town.

The offence committed saw one of the suspects shot dead while three are in Police custody with AK-47 rifles recovered.

Bright Edefe, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in a statement made available to BusinessDay in Asaba, said, “Acting on credible intelligence gathered over a period of time and in-dept technical intelligence related to the kidnapping of one male victim (name withheld) kidnapped on 17th May 2024 at his resident in Adjakota area In Ughelli South LGA of Delta State and later murdered by the kidnappers, the operatives on special assignment led by ASP Julius Robinson cracked down the deadly kidnapping syndicate responsible for the act on 01/07/2024 at about 1200hrs and arrested one Ismaila Umaru 28yrs ‘m’ of Kekura Village In Awe LGA of Nasarawa State but resident at Oghara town by Power Line, Delta State.

“On 04/07/2024 at about 2030hrs the suspect led operatives to the arrest of two (2) other gang members namely Chede Mohammed ‘m’ 18yrs a native of Nasarawa State but resident of Agwara in Ughelli South LGA of Delta State and Mohammadu Sani ‘m’ 26yrs a native of Banbiru area of Abuja but resident at Upper Agbarho Area of Ughelli North. Acting on their confession at about 0530hrs of 05/07/2024, the operative stormed the bush by Oviri-ogor where the operatives encountered an attack from other gang members where one of the suspect hiding in the bush sustained serious gunshot injuries and was taken to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment. One AK 49 rifle recovered in the hideout and investigation is ongoing.”
