NPF, PSC approve Police constable recruitment

Police to investigate death of 23-year old girl in Delta

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Police Service Commission (PSC) have reached a consensus on the final merit list for the recruitment of new Police Constables.

This was announced in a statement by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, on Tuesday.

The agreement follows extensive deliberations and collaboration between both organizations, ensuring that the recruitment process is transparent, fair, and based on merit.

Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector General of Police, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, highlighting it as a demonstration of the NPF and PSC’s commitment to the nation’s best interests.

Egbetokun also emphasized the importance of the new recruits in achieving the Federal Government of Nigeria’s goals of creating employment opportunities for Nigerian youths, enhancing internal security, and maintaining law and order.

He expressed confidence that the recruits would significantly contribute to these objectives.

Training for the newly recruited officers is set to begin on Saturday, August 10th, 2024.

The program will be rigorous, equipping recruits with essential skills and knowledge for effective duty performance.

According to Adejobi, the training will cover modern policing ethics and principles, community policing strategies, ICT, artificial intelligence, human relations, and attitudinal and behavioral change.

The IGP extended his gratitude to all stakeholders and the public for their patience and support throughout the recruitment process.

It will be recalled that in June NPF had rejected the list of successful candidates for the recent constable recruitment exercise, citing allegations of corruption and irregularities.

According to the NPF, a review of the Police Service Commission (PSC) portal revealed that several individuals listed as successful candidates had neither applied nor participated in the recruitment process.

In a statement by the Force Spokesperson, the NPF expressed concern over the inclusion of these names, highlighting the integrity and transparency issues it raises.

The force emphasized its commitment to ensuring a fair and merit-based recruitment process, free from any form of manipulation or misconduct.

The incident has prompted further scrutiny of the recruitment process to uphold the standards and values of the Nigeria Police Force.

This agreement marked a significant step towards strengthening the Nigeria Police Force and enhancing public safety and security.
