Nigerian economist, Egwim selected as Young Global Leader

Chinwe Egwim, chief economist at Coronation Merchant Bank, has been selected to join the Forum of Young Global Leaders (YGL), a prestigious community under the World Economic Forum (WEF).

She was announced as one of the 12 Africans selected to join YGL on Wednesday. The Class of 2024 is a group of nearly 90 change-makers who are shaping the future and accelerating positive change through their ground-breaking work.

This year’s cohort is made up of people from politics, business, civil society, the arts and academia, who are united in their drive to leave a lasting impact on their communities, organisations and beyond.

Egwim was chosen following a rigorous selection process that identified exceptional young leaders shaping the future. The YGL community provides a platform for these emerging leaders to connect, collaborate, and address global challenges.

“For two decades, we have sought out and nurtured young leaders dedicated to improving the state of the world, and today, we are proud to welcome the latest cohort of Young Global Leaders. The Forum of Young Global Leaders remains steadfast in its mission to foster collaboration and responsible leadership,” said Nicole Schwab, board member of the Forum of Young Global Leaders.

Egwim’s work goes beyond economic analysis. She champions socio-economic policies that benefit marginalised communities and advocates for gender equity. Her research and publications have driven discussions and initiatives for gender equality.

She is a frequent speaker at high-profile events and her children’s books, including “Understanding Economic Jargon” and “Super E: The Inflation Smackdown,” promote economic literacy across all ages. She is currently a member of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee in Nigeria.
