Olusegun Mojeed, the President of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), has reiterated need for professionalism in Nigeria’s human resource management ecosystem.
He stated this during the recent 53rd induction ceremony of the CIPM, held in Alausa, Ikeja.
Mojeed, who is also the chairman governing council of the CIPM, said that the relevance of the induction ceremony is an indicator that people that must practice HR in Nigeria must be professionals, and must be certified by the Institute.
According to him, Nigerians are beginning to realize the essence of being certified by the CIPM to practice professionally as admin/HR managers across the country.
“Don’t forget this is a special induction for civil servants, public servants working for Lagos state as part of our process of professionalizing, the admin, and HR in Lagos state,” Mojeed said.
Accordingly, he said that anybody practising admin/HR as a civil servant or public servant in Nigeria must be certified by the CIPM, which is the body recognised by law to do so.
“Recently, August 31, to be precise, the circular was released from the office of the head of service of the Federation to see to professionalize HR in the public sector; that circular has been taken further and now implementable even in the states.
“The Institute is being positioned to respond to issues of quakery in the HR profession. “It shows that we are moving with the time. It shows that they too are not giving up on themselves,” he said.
Toba Otusanya, CEO, Hedgemond Consulting and guest speaker, said that HR innovation is an act of developing and implementing modern technology and approaches to human resource management.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Innovations in People Management and the Future of Pubic Service’, Otusanya said that there is a need to rethink staff performance, increase virtual collaboration and employee engagement.
Otusanya said further that a recent study indicates that by 2035, government workforce will likely consist of technologically advanced generations with different employment expectations.
Shuaheeb Bode Agoro, the Lagos State Head of Service (HoS) and 150 others were inducted by the Institute as professional human resource managers.
All 150 inductees at the special CIPM are members of the Lagos State civil service.
32 were inducted as full members through the executive route, while 118 of the inductees were inducted through the HR Practitioners’ route as associate members of the CIPM.
