Justice Amina Adamu of Kano State High Court has granted an exparte application allowing a charge of alleged financial misappropriation to be served on Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Kano State, his family and others through two widely circulated national dailies.
The judge granted the order following an ex parte application made by Zaharaddeen Hamisu Kofar Mata, when the case came up for mentioning on Wednesday, in Kano.
The order was granted despite objections raised by the lawyer to the 6th defendant, Lamash Safari Textile Limited, Nuraini Jimoh, which was overruled by the judge.
Before the order was granted, a counsel, Adamu Ya’u appeared in the case for the first time, for the prosecution that was challenged by Nuraini.
The defendant’s counsel had argued that there was a specific fiat given to Adeola Adedife that he could share with any other lawyer.
In his response to the issue of fiat raised by the defendant’s lawyer, Adamu told the court that he had also been given a fiat by the attorney-general, stating that he was not with the fiat at present.
In her ruling regarding the appearance, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu adjourned the case to July 11, 2024, for both counsels to properly address the court on the matter.
The defendants in the case include Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Hafsat Umar Ganduje, Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Safari Textiles Ltd, and Lesage General Enterprises
Ganduje, his wife and other co-defendants are being accused by the Kano State government of financial misappropriation and corruption during his tenure as governor of Kano State.
