The hope of many eatery owners who had anticipated massive sales at the three-day national convention of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was dashed as sales didn’t move as expected.
Many food vendors at Eagle Square, the venue of the APC convention who were eager to make fast sales from the opening ceremony of the presidential primary of the party expressed displeasure following low sales recorded so far.
The report reaching BusinessDay from Abuja indicates that the Eagles Square was a shadow of activities contrary to the initial belief that the venue would be jam-packed with people, boosting sales.
The car parks looked deserted with few people around to grace the convention, a witness reported.

A lot of the eateries owners were seen wearing long faces because of their dashed hope of making profitable sales during the ruling party’s presidential primary convention.
One of the local food vendors could not hide her disappointment when she said, “You won’t believe that you are the fifth person that has visited my stand since morning. Yet, they told us we are going to make a lot of money from this APC convention.”
As if to worsen the situation, many staff of the federal secretariat and the foreign affairs ministry who used to be constant and regular customers to the food vendors were not on duty due to the convention.
Some security personnel attached to the federal secretariat disclosed to newsmen that some of the public servants had to return home after they discovered that the major roads leading to the Ahmadu Bello Way and Shehu Shagari road were closed.
Meanwhile, some other staff of the federal secretariat and foreign affairs ministry were said to have gone back home because they could not withstand the harassment by the security personnel manning the routes leading to Eagles Square.
