Buhari to confer GCFR on Tinubu, GCON on Shetima

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday, May 25 confer on Bola Tinubu the president-elect and Kashim Shetima, vice-president-elect, the National Honors of Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) and Grand Commander of Order of the Niger (GCON) respectively

The President is also expected to formally hand over Transition Documents to the President- elect, on the same day, ahead of his swearing in at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha disclosed this on Thursday, while speaking on the May 29 inauguration activities, at a World Press Conference, in Abuja.

Mustapha noted that the significance of the events is underscored by the desire of this administration to lay a solid foundation for seamless transition of power by institutionalising the process through legislation.

In February, the president through Executive Order 14, approved the establishment of the Presidential Transition Council (PTC), with the 24-member Council inclusive of two representatives of the president-elect.

The Council was charged with the responsibility of facilitating and managing the presidential transition.

Mustapha said the PTC had interfaced with leading democratic nations including the United States of America and the Republic of Kenya, as part of its learning efforts to pick up useful lessons in line with international best practices, in the course of its assignment.

The inauguration activities is expected to commence on Tuesday May 23, 2023, with the traditional regimental dinner in honor of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces at the officers mess.

This will be followed on Wednesday, May 24, with the traditional valedictory Federal Executive Council Meeting, at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa

Others include a public lecture and Jumaat prayer, at the
National Mosque on Friday, May26, while the Inauguration Lecture with the topic: “Deepening Democracy for Integration and Development, will take place on Saturday, May 27, to be delivered by Uhuru Kenyatta, former President of Kenya International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The inauguration of the new President will take place on Monday, May 29, 2023, at the Eagles Square, Abuja.
