SystemSpecs announces submissions for Children’s Day Essay Competition

SystemSpecs has announced the opening of submissions for its 6th Annual Children’s Day Essay Competition (CDEC), themed “How I Would Use Technology to Mobilize My Peers for a Greater Nigeria.” This initiative reinforces SystemSpecs’ commitment to empowering Nigerian children through technology awareness.

The competition challenges students to explore how technology can position them as active agents of change, recognizing the impact of their ideas on community development, economic growth, and governance. The CDEC, a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, integrates technology, education, and leadership to equip young minds with the skills and vision to shape Nigeria’s future.

Bukola Adeboye, Executive Director, Corporate Services, SystemSpecs, stated, “Nigerian children represent the dynamic force that will steer the country towards a future defined by innovation, inclusivity, and accountable leadership. By challenging them to reimagine the role of technology in influencing their peers, we are not only cultivating creativity and critical thinking but also instilling a sense of duty to drive tangible social progress.” She emphasized the role of parents, teachers, and school administrators in shaping young Nigerians’ engagement with societal issues, encouraging discussion and independent thought to nurture real-world solutions.

The competition aims to stimulate intellectual curiosity, urging children to see technology as a catalyst for social change. It recognises young people’s capacity to lead and bridge developmental gaps. In a nation facing infrastructural deficits and educational inequities, such creative expressions are essential.

SystemSpecs believes that young people are active contributors to nation-building. As technology reshapes industries, the need for education fostering critical thinking and innovation is greater than ever. Deliberate investments in digital literacy and transformative education are crucial for cultivating agile problem-solvers.

Recent research highlights the importance of shifting from rote learning to methods promoting innovative, critical thinking. With the digital revolution, education must equip students with the skills for the modern world. Initiatives like this essay competition provide a platform for students to develop and demonstrate new capabilities, highlighting the interplay between technology and social responsibility.

The CDEC submission portal is open until April 11, 2025. Primary and secondary school students (aged 9–16) across Nigeria are encouraged to submit essays reflecting their vision for using technology for social good. Winning entries will be celebrated on Children’s Day, May 27, 2025.
