Action movies have often raised expectations for viewers and more so when it comes from Nollywood. The recent attention to action scenes in some has many buzzing with excitement. So is the rise of Tobi Bakre, ex-BBNaija housemate as the action hero.
Bakre has played the lead role in three action-packed movies.
Who is Tobi Bakre?
Tobi Bakre, born 1st June, 1994, is a 29-year-old TV presenter, actor and model who rose to fame in 2018 as a housemate from popular show; Big Brother Naija Season Three.
Bakre is a graduate of University of Lagos, obtaining his bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance in 2012. He also took interest in photography and passion in football.
However, being an ex-housemate and a TV presenter, Bakre embraced his passion for acting and has appeared in several Nollywood movies and web series, showcasing his versatile acting skills. Some notable projects he has been a part of include “Fix Us,” “Mokalik,” and “Sugar Rush.”
It is however his interpretation of roles in three action movies that sets him apart from his peers.
Brotherhood tells the story of two brothers who are forced to become orphans on New Year’s day. Wale (Falz) and Akin (Tobi Bakre) fight to survive the streets of Lagos but are later found at different sides of a coin- Wale joining the police force and Akin, an ill-famed gang of robbers. The relationship between the two brothers is put to test considering their very contradicting paths in life.
The Brotherhood was released on September 23, 2022. Tobi, in this movie, portrayed the occurrence of street lifestyle: the sacrifices, the decisions to make and the constant rush of adrenaline.

Gangs of Lagos
Gangs of Lagos being one of Tobi Bakre’s latest starred movie, is centered around the story of a group of children with similar upbringings in Isale Eko, Lagos. Obalola (Tobi Bakre), having a shady childhood, soon gains respect from other gang members around him. Along the line, Obalola finds a shocking truth about Kazeem (Olarotimi Fakunle) and his late adoptive father that falters their relationship considering Kazeem took him in after his adoptive father died.
On April 7th 2023, Gangs of Lagos was released and audience were once more in awe at the storyline and performance of the actors. Most importantly, the movie in connection with the actors displayed the satirical activities of street life and what really goes into it: Pain, Sacrifice, greed and even betrayal.
The Blood Covenant
Blood Covenant starring Tobi Bakre, Erica Nlewedim and Alexx Ekubo, follows the story of three men in their late twenties with the dream of becoming wealthy the easiest way possible. The movie begins with a flashback of four school boys- Eddy (Tobi Bakre), Jite (Uzor Arukwe), Osiano (Shawn Faqua) and Obi (Alexx Ekubo) At a school reunion, the fourth member of this group Obi (Alexx Ekubo) comes in contact with his long time friend. Obi promises them a fun evening and takes them to his house and the boys soon fall asleep only to awake and find themselves in a strange room where Obi intends to use them for a sacrifice.
Blood Covenant released on the 15th April, 2022, is a genre of drama and thriller and Tobi never failed to bring in some action.
With the rapid evolution of Nollywood, Tobi Bakre is expected to hit many more big screen project.
