Radisson on track to achieve 15 hotels in Nigeria by 2025

Since its debut in Nigeria in 2006 with Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, the Radisson Hotel Group (RHG) has been committed to the Nigerian market, amid strategic portfolio expansion and human capital development.

From its flagship hotel, RHG has a portfolio (in operation and under development) of 12 hotels in the country, while firmly on track to achieve 15 hotels across the country by 2025.

The latest in its portfolio expansion drive is the Radisson Hotel Benin City, a 169-room hotel scheduled to open within the next 12 months. The planned hotel is the group’s 12th hotel in Nigeria and officially marks RHG’s debut in Benin City.

Located in Benin City, Edo State, Radisson Hotel Benin City is situated in the prime Government Reserved Area (GRA). Conveniently accessible via the airport and Benin-Sapele roads, the two main arteries of the city, the hotel is just five minutes’ drive from the Benin Airport and on the doorstep of the Benin Golf Course and the city’s commercial center.

The hotel’s array of Scandinavian inspired accommodation will range from contemporary standard rooms to expansive executive suites, including a presidential suite. Creating a social hub for delectable cuisine, the hotel’s gastronomic offering will include a lobby bar and café, an all-day dining restaurant as well as a pool bar and grill. To provide a harmonious stay, guests can also unwind in the hotel’s gym and spa.

The Radisson Hotel Benin City is also within close proximity to various security offices, such as the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police Force, providing an additional security presence in the vicinity of the hotel.

The hotel’s meetings and events spaces will consist of a 507 sqm sub-divisible ballroom, three meeting rooms and a pre-function area for a wide range of tailored events.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Benin City over the week, Erwan Garnier, senior director, Development for Africa at Radisson Hotel Group, noted that with RHG’s ongoing commitment to expand in Nigeria, a key market in Africa for its scaled growth, the debut in Benin City is perfectly aligned with the group’s growth strategy for the country.

“As our first Radisson branded hotel outside of Lagos and Abuja, the Radisson Hotel Benin City will continue to reinforce our brand awareness in Nigeria, especially for the Radisson brand which enables guests to find more harmony in their travel experience. As a new, upscale, internationally branded hotel, we believe the hotel will play a significant role in promoting tourism and business activities within Benin City and the broader Edo State,” Garnier said.

At the signing ceremony, Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo State, said, “Today marks a significant milestone in our collective vision for progress and development in our beloved state. The Edo State Radisson Hotel project represents a symbol of our commitment to fostering economic growth and transforming the landscape of our state. The hospitality and tourism sectors have long been recognized as powerful catalysts for economic prosperity, creating opportunities for employment, investments, and socio-cultural exchange. By embarking on this ambitious venture, we are signalling our firm belief in the potential of our state as a vibrant and thriving destination.”

Speaking further on the impressive performance of RHG in the Nigerian market, Garnier explained that Nigeria is a key market within RHG’s robust development strategy to reach in150 hotels across Africa within the next five years.

According to him, Nigeria has record signings in 2023, with 8 hotels signed to date this year, adding over 1600 rooms to the group’s African portfolio, and about 50 percent of the signings are in Nigeria.

The senior director, Development for Africa at Radisson Hotel Group attributed the success to the group’s commitment to its 5-year growth plan in Nigeria, which is evident through its accelerated strategy in Nigeria as a key strategic market.

“We believe the hotel here will play a significant role in promoting tourism and business activities within Benin City and the broader Edo State. We aim for more in the years to come”, the senior director, Development for Africa at Radisson Hotel Group said.

He also noted that the Nigerian feat complements the group’s most extensive presence in Africa, with an active presence in 34 countries.
