Content creators, SYSA partner to empower over 200 young creatives

In a remarkable display of creativity and collaboration, Shoot Your Shot Africa (SYSA) recently concluded its transformative three-day Creative Community Content Lab in Bariga, Lagos. The event, which brought together over 200 young Nigerians, has not only energized the local creative scene but is also gaining international recognition for its innovative approach to youth empowerment through digital content creation.

The landmark event, themed ‘Imagine, Innovate, Impact’, was a platform where rising stars of Nigeria’s creative industry converged with established influencers and content creators, with the aim to nurture the next generation of African storytellers and digital innovators.

Held at the Seaside Cottage Theatre, a hidden gem in the heart of Bariga’s slum, the event showcased the power of creative collaboration in overcoming geographic and economic barriers.

Over three days, participants aged between 16 to 25 years old, engaged in intensive workshops covering mobile content creation, cinematography, directing, intellectual property rights, and content creation for social impact.

The sessions were led by a stellar lineup of Nigerian influencers and content creators who are also making waves internationally.

The facilitators include: Edem Victor, a visionary director and content creator with a growing global audience; Tunde Eko, an influential content creator known for his groundbreaking work in digital media and Timi Agbaje, a lawyer and content creator, whose expertise bridges the gap between creativity and legal protection in the digital age. The facilitators, along with others such as Julius Ilori, co-founder of Learners Corner, and Omolabake Ohu, a lawyer and cinematographer, brought a wealth of experience and global perspectives to the event.

The impact of the influencers was profound. Through hands-on training and mentorship, they not only imparted technical skills but also shared insights into how to navigate the global content market, build a personal brand, and leverage digital platforms for maximum reach and impact. The participants were not just learning the art of content creation, they were being groomed to become influential voices in the global creative economy.

The highlight of the event was the group project challenge, where participants were tasked with creating impact videos that addressed pressing social issues. Guided by their influencer mentors, these young creatives produced five powerful videos that were evaluated on thematic messaging, shot composition, sound design, acting, and interpretation. The results were nothing short of spectacular, with two groups emerging as the most outstanding, scoring 28 and 27 points respectively.

The presentations on the final day, attended by local dignitaries including Baale of Isale Akoka, High Chief Adebanjo and Lirijin Ruth Ayomide, senior special assistant to the Lagos State Government on Civic Duties, were a testament to the transformative power of mentorship and creative collaboration. The young creators, armed with newfound skills and confidence, presented works that not only resonated with local audiences but also have the potential to captivate international viewers.

Adebisi Peters and Seun Adeleye, the founder and co-founder of SYSA, expressed their pride and optimism about the future of Africa’s creative industry. “The participation of internationally recognized influencers and content creators has elevated this project to a new level,” Peters remarked.

“Their involvement has not only inspired our young participants but has also put Nigeria on the global creative map. With continued support, we can expand this initiative, engage more young talents, and amplify their voices on a global stage.”

The Creative Community Content Lab, supported by Civic Hive and other partners, is already attracting attention beyond Nigeria’s borders. The event’s success underscores the growing recognition of Africa as a hub of creative talent, with Nigerian content creators and influencers leading the charge. The project is more than just a local success, it is a model for how digital creativity can drive social change and economic development across the continent.

As the global demand for authentic and diverse voices continues to rise, initiatives like SYSA’s Creative Community Content Lab are crucial in shaping the future of content creation. By providing young Africans with the tools, mentorship, and platforms they need to succeed, SYSA is not only empowering individuals but also positioning Africa as a major player in the global creative industry.

The time to support and invest in this movement is now. The international community, corporate sponsors, and government bodies are urged to recognize the value of such initiatives and contribute to their growth. Together, we can ensure that the voices of Africa’s young creators are heard on the world stage.
