The magistrate court sitting in Abuja has granted senator Isiaka Adeleke bail in the sum of 2 million naira following his arrest and arraignment by the Nigerian police on allegation of certificate forgery. The court adjourned the case to 24th of June.

He pleaded not guilty to all the five count charge read against him and his lawyer, Prince Adebiyi Adeyosoye accordingly move an application for his bail.

Although prosecution counsel opposed the application on grounds that the defendant did not show evidence of his ill health, however Justice Zubaru, in his ruling, held that he was mindful to grant the bail application.

As part of the conditions, the court ordered Adeleke to produce a surety in like sum, who must be a resident of the court’s jurisdiction.

The defence team of Isiaka Adeleke had on Tuesday morning asked the magistrate court to discontinue the case against their client since there are subsisting court rulings barring the police from arresting and detaining Adeleke over the matter.

The Nigerian Police Force arraigned Isiaka Adeleke, the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Osun State, at a magistrate court.

The force through its spokesman, Frank Mba, said Adeleke will be tried in connection with a criminal investigation.

“Senator Adeleke is currently in police custody. He was taken into custody in the evening of 6th, May, 2019, in connection with ongoing criminal investigations touching on his person.

“Meanwhile, in the best tradition of natural justice and fair hearing, he has already been served with the relevant charge sheet containing his alleged offences in the presence of his attorneys,” Mba said.
