Former president Goodluck Jonathan said in his new book launched today in Abuja that the main issues of his administration included abduction of Chibok girls, his acceptance of defeat, the role of former United States President, Barack Obama in contributing to his defeat and the 2012 anti-fuel hike protest.
The launch of the book titled, ‘My Transition Hours’ is currently holding at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja and coincides with the 61st birthday of the immediate past President.
This is his first memoir since he left office in 2015.
Jonathan who served as the President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015, remains the first Nigerian president to be defeated at a presidential election.
He received accolades across the globe after he conceded defeat and congratulated All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and winner of the election, President Muhammadu Buhari in a telephone call.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, President Buhari is the special guest of honour at the event.
Other guests are: former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar; former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon; former Vice President, Namadi Sambo and one-time Chief Justice of Nigeria, Salihu Alfa Belgore.
Othera are: ex-Minister of Defence, Theophilus Danjuma; former Vice President Senate President Bukola Saraki; Speaker House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara among others.
The book launch also has dignitaries from across Africa including President Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire, President Faure Gnassingbe of Togo, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya and President Adama Barrow of Gambia, Ibrahim Babangida and former Ghanaian President – John Dramani Mahama.
The event comes barely 48 hours after the official commencement of campaigns for the forthcoming General Election and after the two main presidential candidates, Buhari and Atiku, launched their policy documents.
In the book, the former President explains the main issues of his administration including abduction of Chibok girls, his acceptance of defeat, the role of former United States President, Barack Obama in contributing to his defeat, 2012 anti-fuel hike protest, his philosophy of life among other issues.
