UBA Foundation National Essay Competition:

The UBA Foundation national essay competition targets senior secondary students in Nigeria, as part of the foundation’s education initiative to promote the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition amongst students.

The competition also provides financial support to future leaders who want to pursue higher education. Applicants must be Nigerian Senior Secondary School Students, complete contact information, upload a handwritten essay of 750 words max, upload a recent passport photograph, and a scanned copy of birth certificate, National ID, or International Passport.

The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF):

The NHEF was established in 2004, since then, it has been committed to enhancing the capacity of higher education institutions in Nigeria.

It is working toward a future in which Nigeria’s tertiary education will be one of the best in the world, and develop global scholars and leaders of the 21st century that can make a lasting impact in Nigeria and Africa.

Participants are to enroll in their penultimate year at any NHEF partner university, such as Ahmadu Bello University, Bayero University, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and University of Port Harcourt, among others.

NSE Essay Competition:

The Nigerian Stock Exchange Essay Competition established in 2000, is aimed to equip the future of Nigeria through the paramount avenue of education and ICT.

The Jim Ovia Foundation collaborates with NSE as co-sponsor for the essay competition. The first-three winners are usually awarded equity investments in companies quoted on the NSE, scholarships for university education and laptops.

Their respective schools also get personal computers and printers. In addition, seven national winners are rewarded with consolation prizes.

The competition tests students on their knowledge of financial and capital markets. The goal is to inculcate the culture of financial shrewdness among youth

The Francis Ibhawoh Annual Essay Competition:

The Francis Ibhawoh Foundation was established in 2014 in honour of the late Francis Ehidiamen Ibhawoh.

The scholarship is awarded annually to the student with the best entry in the Francis Ibhawoh annual essay competition for undergraduates. The competition focuses on topical contemporary issues relating to local community and national development with a view to proffering solutions.

Jemila Abubakar Memorial Essay (JAME) Competition in Nigeria:

The JAME competition organised annually the Asido Foundation for undergraduate students of Nigerian tertiary institutions is centred on a topical mental health issue.

Since its inception, about 2500 entries have been received from various tertiary institutions in Nigeria, and winners awarded cash prizes ranging from N200,000, N150,000 and N100,000 for the first, second and third position respectively.

National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Essay Competition for Young Nigerians:

This competition provides young Nigerians with an opportunity to voice their opinions and contribute to the future of the country.

The competition offers cash prizes for the best entries, but beyond the prize money, the essay competition gives youth the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national discourse, influence policy, and propose solutions that can drive the nation forward.

UNDP Undergraduate Essay Competition For Nigerian Students:

The UNDP international essay contest’s goal is to engage undergraduate students in critical thinking about how commerce, taxes, and sustainable development are related to one another.

Winners will get a cash prize worth up to N1 million and certificates of recognition.

Eligibility criteria includes that candidates must be undergraduate Nigerian students, be currently enrolled in a recognised university or college in any discipline, and must submit the required documents. Essays should be between 1,500 and 2,000 words.

Love in Action Foundation Steve Ogah Essay Competition For Nigerian Undergraduates:

This essay competition is open to all Nigerian students currently enrolled in government owned universities and polytechnics across different faculties and departments.

Essays are expected to be not more than 1500 words, typewritten with the author’s name, email address, phone number, author’s university’s name, and essay title at the top of the first page.

No specific formatting rules are prescribed. However, essays must be submitted in PDF format. The word count limit does not include the author’s name, email address, phone number, author’s university’s name, and essay title.

Submissions must be original and unpublished. Entries incorporating plagiarised content or generated by generative AI (such as ChatGPT) will be disqualified. Each essay submission must be the work of a single author.

NIMASA 2024 World Maritime Day Essay Competition:

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency essay competition is designed to create awareness of the tremendous opportunities in the maritime sector and engender the interest of Nigerian youth to pursue careers in it.

The competition is open to only students’ in year one and two of Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Participants are required to scan bona fide proof of studentship alongside their essays, letters of admission and identity cards of the institution.

Essays should be maximum of 1200 words double spaced in MS word and font size 12, plagiarism is not allowed.

Essays should end with the name, telephone number and email address of the participant. Essays that do not follow the guidelines will be disqualified.

Policy Youth Essay Writing Competition:

The essay writing competition is an opportunity for youth to reflect, delve deeper, bringing fresh insights and perspectives on the real issues surrounding African elections.

Participants must be between 18 and 30 years old, and resident in the African region. The writing language can be either English or Swahili.

The competition has a prize money of $100 to $300, and a certificate of recognition.
