Qoray’s electric tricycle eyes Guinness records in first attempt

Nigerian electric mobility pioneer Qoray Mobility, backed by Sterling Bank, will attempt to shatter a Guinness World Records title on January 25, 2025, showcasing the power and durability of their locally assembled electric tricycle also known as Keke.

In a groundbreaking 12-hour endurance test, the Qoray Teak electric tricycle will aim to set the record for the longest distance traveled by an electric tricycle, demonstrating Nigeria’s emergence as a leader in sustainable transportation innovation.

“This is bigger than just setting a record. It’s about showing the world what’s possible,” said Olabanjo Alimi, CEO of Qoray Mobility and Energies Limited. “Electric vehicles aren’t just the future; they’re a practical solution for the challenges we face today. We’re ready to show everyone that they can perform under pressure and in real-life conditions.”

The centerpiece of this attempt is the Qoray Teak electric tricycle, a locally designed and assembled vehicle that’s built for efficiency and durability. With a battery that lasts over five years and operating costs up to 70 percent lower than traditional vehicles, it’s not just eco-friendly – it’s a smart choice for drivers and businesses looking to cut costs while helping the environment.

“This is about more than distance,” said Akinkunmi Akingbogun, group head of the mobility division at Sterling Bank. “It’s about proving that electric mobility is reliable, affordable, and perfectly suited for our roads and our communities. The Qoray Teak is a game-changer, and we’re excited to show the world what it can do.”

To get here, the team has put in months of hard work, testing the tricycle in tough conditions and preparing the drivers and crew for every scenario. This attempt is about showing that sustainable transportation isn’t just anidea – it’s happening, and it’s happening right here in Nigeria.

This effort is also about teamwork. Partners like Startimes Solar, Torrista, Imperium, and Made By Nigerians have joined forces to make this a reality. Together, they’re proving that when private companies, financial institutions, and innovators work together, they can achieve something incredible.

As the countdown to the big day – January 25, 2025 – begins, Alimi is calling on Nigerians to support this bold move.

“This isn’t just Qoray’s story. It’s Nigeria’s story. It’s about showing that we have the talent, the innovation, and the determination to lead the world in sustainability,” he said.

This record attempt isn’t just about numbers on a page. It’s about cleaner cities, lower emissions, and a brighter future for everyone. Qoray Mobility and Sterling Bank aren’t just breaking records – they’re breaking barriers and leading the charge for a better, greener tomorrow.
