Nigerite

Nigerite Limited, a complete building components solutions company and manufacturer of fibre-cement roofing (Litespan, Soloxtra) and ceiling sheets (KalsiCeil), compressed sandcrete roofing tiles (Crowntile French and Crowntile Mission), Kalsi building boards and other brands has emerged winner of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria’s (MAN) award for being the cleanest manufacturing company in Lagos State.

The award for the cleanest business environment in Lagos was organized by the Manufacturers Association Of Nigeria,(MAN) Ikeja branch among its manufacturing member companies, as part of its 49thAnnual General Meeting held recently in Lagos.

While congratulating Nigerite, the Executive Secretary, MAN, Ikeja Branch, Mr. Joseph Emoleke explained that the award was initiated to encourage manufacturers to employ safe and clean practices in the course of production in line with global best practices. According to him, the measure is part of MAN’s contributions towards environmental protection, a move he disclosed that the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has keyed into.

“Each time we go on inspection, we go with officials of LASEPA, Federal Ministry of Environment and other regulatory bodies to ensure compliance. Based on the outcome of the awards, LASEPA has expressed commitments towards rewarding Nigerite and two other companies by relieving them of some levies. I believe this will encourage other members”, he added.

The Quality, Safety, Health and Environment Manager, Nigerite Limited, John Bamigboye, in his reaction and thanking MAN, explained that the company is winning the prestigious award for the third time courtesy of its innovative and world-class approach towards health and safety management in the country. “We came first in 2013 and 2014 and dropped to fourth place in 2015. When we got the report of 2015 that we came fourth, we looked back and analyzed the parameters for scoring in the category and did a gap analysis to overcome our competitors. In the process the company invested in campaigns, efforts and energy to operate a clean, safe and healthy environment.” he said.

The Safety, Health and Environment Manager went further “the company was able to pick up this award courtesy of what he described as its Keep It Simple and Stupid (KISS) model, because we want everybody to understand this and abide by it. When you keep it too high, you keep it to yourself.”

Bamigboye also commended efforts by the State government for creating initiatives to promote a green, safe and healthier environment, but stressed that a lot still needs to be done to make the dream a reality.

Nigerite Limited does not only create awareness for its staff on best practices in Safety, Health and Environment, it also extends this to other stakeholders such as distributors and customers at several organized fora. Nigerite embarks on a lot of Corporate Social Investments (CSI) and passionately supports a number of green initiatives.
