NABU, HP partner to empower 25 million children by 2030

NABU, a tech-enabled publisher of multilingual books, in partnership with HP Nigeria, is embarking on a six-year plan across Africa, aiming to reach 25 million children by 2030.

The firm disclosed this at the unveiling of the NABU HP Creative Lab where it stated that the mission is to ensure every child can read and learn through storytelling and technology.

“This is a global partnership with HP and this is the fourth lab launched as we have some labs in partnership with HP in the Philippines, America, and Rwanda and it is recognising the importance of foundational literacy and digital technology as countries and citizens around the world are met,” Cuthbert Onikute, global director of operations at NABU said.

Emmanuel Asika, country head/director at HP Nigeria, while speaking about the reason for the partnership with NABU said the relationship with NABU started in 2021. “We have our goals in HP Nigeria and as a lot of people know us as a tech company but beyond tech, we at HP want to be known as the most just and sustainable tech company in the world.

“The focus for us is how we can bring some value into society and we have an ambitious goal to enhance digital literacy and digital equity for 150 million people by 2030.

“Today, we have done about 45 million and counting which is almost a third of our entire goal by 2030, this now becomes a key element of our goal,” Asika said.

Olushola Aromokun, country manager, Nigeria at NABU said HP contributes by introducing them to partners that help them scale.

“HP supplies us devices for illustration, creative labs, projectors, and in different countries HP helps us land easily and distribute,” he said.

NABU said in a statement that it has reached over 7.5 million children worldwide, has over 2500 teachers trained, markets served are 10 countries, and two million books downloaded and 55,000 distributed with above 1000 titles published in 21 languages.

“We train local creators to publish books in languages where they do not exist, ensuring every child has free access to the books they need to learn to read,” it stated. “Our framework, based on best practices, fosters children’s reading and language development, ensuring equitable access to educational resources.”
