If you’re looking for young Nigerian fashion brands whose founding premises are built on creativity, constant exploration, finesse and luxury, the Jerré Official brand is definitely one to keep under your radar. Founded by young Jeremiah Segun [popularly called Jerry] in 2020, the brand which is hugely inspired by the environment, nature, and everything in-between, has significantly risen to an admirable level of excellence and distinction. “We’re greatly motivated by the environment and the tales of African twists,” Jerry tells me on a call. “We’re a contemporary modern brand in the business of making bold and delicate womenswear [and menswear] pieces, inspired by our own vulnerabilities.”

True to his words, the Jerré Official brand has in the past years, produced collections that show a shiny mix of human vulnerabilities and insecurities. They’re a match significantly expressed in the brands’ ethos and aesthetics, without questions or doubts. From the use of sheer, silk, and traditional fabrics, to the incorporation of design details that includes cuts, ruffles, slits and fabrics manipulations, the brand is offering a lovable, colourful and artsy rendition of what it really means to be vulnerable. “For the most part, we’re always excited when these pieces come together,” he says. We’re excited by how we always successfully manage to create pieces that show a perfect mix of peoples vulnerabilities and insecurities. We try to make a bridge. For us, we understand that people go through a lot of stuff, and try to make it work. Therefore, we use our pieces to say ‘you can wear them on your sleeves, and you’ll be fine’,” he adds.

For the Jerré Official brand, every piece is significant and intentional. Every colour, every fabric choice, every design detail, and every pose, is intentional. The brand, whose pieces has been work by the likes of Tiwa Savage has ran through two fabulous collections, including Champagne and Flowers, which is a delicate and emotional collection inspired by Love, and Paranoia inspired by Black women and freedom, with both collections featuring night silk dresses, flowers, sheer, organza, Aso-oke, champagne, and a perfect rush of emotions.

Speaking on why it was important to express people’s feelings and vulnerabilities through his pieces, the Creative Director reminds us of the very essence of living, a behind-the-scenes lifestyle, and how the need to show a perfect finish was too important for most people. “It’s important because of the efforts we put to be strong, to be great, and to be perfect. No one is talking about the struggles. We do not even get to see a behind-the-scenes; just a perfect finished product,” he comments. “The society is emotionally forcing people to be perfect, and I wanted to reflect that. I want people to know, feel, and be vulnerable. I want to help in luxuriously transforming these vulnerabilities into confidence, through what I do.”
