Presidential fleet for sale
The Presidency has officially commenced the sale of presidential aircraft in her fleet. President Muhammadu Buhari has about 10 working aircraft at his disposal.
According to adverts put up for the sales, the statement on them read, “Dear Nigerians, Please, help the Federal Government find buyers, we need the money to come out of Recession.”
This development is coming few weeks after the Federal Government declared its intention to sell some of its assets in a bid to come out of its present recession.
BusinessDay’s checks show that the Federal Government spent about N5 billion on the 10-aicraft presidential air fleet in the last 15 months.
According to a document from the Presidency, the amount of money released for the fleet since the inception of the current administration in May 2015 till date is in the region of N5 billion.
The breakdown of the sum showed that N2.3 billion was released for PAF by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation between May and November 2015. That figure included releases for personnel costs, overheads and capital expenditure, out of the N5.19 billion appropriated for PAF in the 2015 budget.
Of the sum, the Presidency said N99.715 million was spent on aircraft maintenance, spares and subscription services. The sum of N98.5 million was also spent on operations; N165.373 million on training and N85.5 million on personnel medicals and overheads.
During the period, the document claimed that PAF spent N1.350 billion to settle outstanding liabilities carried over from 2014, while N500 million was refunded to the NSA for financial support rendered for the maintenance of the Fleet prior to release of funds.
