Kerosene, petrol prices increase in April – NBS

The average price per litre paid by consumers for household kerosene and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as “petrol,” increased in April, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Consumers’ average retail price per litre of Household Kerosene (HHK) paid in April 2022 increased by 4.48 percent month-on-month from N564.55 in March 2022 to N589.82 in April 2022, the latest NBS report said.

The average retail price per litre increased by 62.63 percent year over year (y-o-y) from N362.68 in April 2021.

The report said that the state with the highest average price per litre in April 2022 was Ebonyi, where residents paid N704.44, followed by Ekiti at N695.56 and Imo at N658.33.

The lowest price was recorded in Jigawa at N483.83, followed by Abia at N521.47 and Bayelsa at N528.33, according to the bureau.

Average price of kerosene year on year

It said: “The average retail price per gallon of Household Kerosene paid by consumers increased by 6.20 percent on a month-on-month basis from N2,011.70 in March 2022 to N2,136.52 in April 2022.

On a year-on-year basis, this increased by 74.26 percent from N1,226.08 in April 2021, it said.

“Anambra state recorded the highest average retail price per gallon with N2,445.00, followed by Kaduna with N2,422.22 and Cross River with N2,414.29.

“On the other hand, Kogi recorded the lowest price with N1,710.42, followed by Plateau and Rivers with N1,880.00 and N1,903.13, respectively.”

Meanwhile, the average retail price of Petrol paid by consumers increased to N172.61 in April 2022, representing a 3.74 percent increase over the April 2021 value of N166.38.

Similarly, compared to the average retail price paid by consumers in April 2022, the average retail price fell 6.85 percent from N185.30 in March 2022.

It said: “On state profile analysis, the highest average retail price for Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) was recorded in Kaduna with N202.94, followed by Enugu and Abia with N197.51 and N195.27 respectively.

“On the other hand, the lowest average retail price for Petrol was recorded in Ebonyi and Nasarawa with N165.00 each, followed by Lagos and Katsina with N165.13 and N165.25 respectively.

“More so, the highest average retail price was recorded in the South-East zone with N183.69, while the North-Central had the least with N166.57.”
