The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has partnered with TechnoServe Nigeria to explore mainstreaming of enriched stable food into safety net programs while working to increase the capacity of state actors on fortification.

This was made known recently when a delegation from TechnoServe Nigeria visited the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to introduce its programmes, activities and impact across practice areas, especially in the country.

According to TechnoServe, the goal of the visit was to explore potential areas of alignment with the ministry’s agenda, initiatives and policy thrust related to improving nutrition and providing humanitarian relief to displaced Nigerians in crisis areas.

Adesuwa Akinboro, TechnoServe Nigeria’s country director, led the delegation and was received by Gajere Mayen, director of nutrition; Fawekun Oyeyemi, deputy director of nutrition and other key officials of the ministry.

Akinboro noted that the emphasis of the collaboration with the ministry was centered on training of nutrition officers as it pertains to fortification.

According to her, with the training, the nutrition officers can serve as champions and advocate for nutritious food in the various communities they work and complement the works of TechnoServe and other development partners.

During the meeting, the country director shared an overview of TechnoServe’s mission, impact, and presence in Nigeria.

She introduced their goal of providing humanitarian relief for displaced and vulnerable Nigerians and its role in solving the country’s nutrition problem.

Also, she talked about TechnoServe’s target of improving the incomes and livelihoods of hardworking men and women in underserved areas across various value chains, helping them build strong farms and businesses and providing business solutions to poverty.

Aneke A.N, director of special duties and poverty alleviation at the ministry appreciated the TechnoServe team for the visit.

She expressed hope that the visit would mark the beginning of a valuable partnership, providing an opportunity for TechnoServe to learn from the Ministry’s experiences, particularly in providing humanitarian relief for displaced Nigerians and alleviating poverty.
