Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu hosts Chelsea legend Didier Drogba

Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, hosted Ivorian football legend Didier Drogba, a former Chelsea football star, at the Lagos House in Marina on Monday.

The visit was part of a special event celebrating Drogba’s remarkable contributions to football and his philanthropic initiatives. The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, shared a video on social media capturing the warm reception Drogba received.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gawat confirmed that Drogba’s team, alongside representatives from the E1 Racing Team, met with Sanwo-Olu.

“Between Governor #jidesanwoolu and African Football Legend, #ChelseaFC Legend, Didier Drogba #didierdrogba this morning at the Lagos House, Marina, as Team Drogba and the Representatives of E1 Racing Team pay a courtesy visit to Mr. Governor.”

A viral video from the visit also captured Sanwo-Olu and Drogba exchanging a handshake, further highlighting the football legend’s presence in Lagos.

Born on March 11, 1978, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Drogba is widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest footballers. A two-time African Footballer of the Year, he remains Côte d’Ivoire’s all-time top scorer.

Drogba gained global recognition during his time at Chelsea FC, where he led the club to multiple titles, including the historic 2012 UEFA Champions League victory.

Beyond football, Drogba is a dedicated humanitarian. In 2007, he established the Didier Drogba Foundation, which focuses on improving healthcare and education in Côte d’Ivoire.

His visit to Lagos underscores his ongoing influence both in sports and philanthropy.
