The Delta State Waste Management Board verification and inspection team has vowed to clamp down on all those who have refused to obey the law by registering with the Private Sector Participants (PSPs) responsible for waste disposal in the state.
The management of the board made this vow when it visited Uvwie for an on the spot assessment of the capacity of the Private Sector Participants, PSPs in the area to manage waste.
The team, led by the Chairman of the Board, Emma Chinye, verified and inspected the operational tipping trucks of the PSPs to ensure they were good enough for waste disposal.
Addressing the PSPs operators before the exercise, Chinye said it was important that the PSPs maintained their trucks to enable them cope with the enormous task of regularly visiting their clients for the collection of waste and disposal of same to approved dumpsite.
He reminded the PSPs that the essence of engaging them was to drive an efficient waste disposal system that would leave Uvwie cleaner, stressing that there was no room for failure.
The Board Chairman said the PSPs must ensure that their vehicles were functional at all times so that the clients would not have cause not to register with them, pointing out that any PSP found wanting would have his services withdrawn.
Chinye disclosed that indiscriminate dumping of refuse had been prohibited in the eight pilot cities in the state, including Uvwie, and the only way to make the system work was to ensure that every client is registered with a PSP.
He urged the PSPs to distribute the Demand Notice given to them to clients in their zones, as the Board would embark on Operation Show Your PSP Receipt in two weeks time.
