The Lagos State government is one of the few states in Nigeria that has given significant attention to emergency response with the revamping of fire stations, police speed dials, increased ambulances and so on. Notwithstanding, thousands of people living in the state still find themselves in emergency situations especially with the traffic situation in the state being a major contributor.

Rescue Technologies, a Nigerian-based firm, said that given the pervasive nature of technology innovations and mobile devices, the solutions to emergencies lies in enabling people technologically. Millions of Nigerians now own a smartphone and carry it with them at all times.

In that sense, the company has unveiled a mobile application it calls Emro to help prevent loss of lives and properties that usually characterise these situations.

Emro is a mobile and web application that provides subscribers with access to emergency response services. A statement released by Rescue Technology to BusinessDay explained that Emro has the capability to dispatch an armed response team in a case of security emergency, or a medical ambulance team when it concerns medical emergencies, to specific locations within minutes of the distress call.

“In a vibrant metropolitan city like Lagos, which houses over 20 million people, it makes sense to have services that ensure that ensure your safety and security needs are catered for in a timely and efficient manner,” the statement from Rescue Technologies noted. “This is what Emro provides. If your car breaks down on Third Mainland Bridge or at Ikorodu Road in the middle of the night, you want to be able to call for help that will arrive in minutes to ensure that you are safe. Of if a loved one ever has a sudden heart attack, you should be able to quickly and discreetly call for help.”

Rescue Technologies also provides emergence response services which can also be accessed by dialling the emergency number 0700 000 1190 or 1190 (coming soon).

“There is the safety monitor feature that lets subscribers notify their emergency contacts of their location via email and SMS. Emro’s services also cater to events coverage, should you need a medical ambulance or security van at an event,” the company said.
