Nigeria’s women’s U-17 team, the Flamingos, produced a dominant display to thrash Guinea 5-0 in the first leg of their 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup second-round qualifier in Abidjan on Saturday.
The encounter, played at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, saw the Flamingos take control from the opening whistle with captain Harmony Chidi delivering a sensational performance.

Chidi opened the scoring with the very first kick of the game to hand the Akeem Busari-led side a dream start.
The forward doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 13th minute with a stunning long-range strike as the Flamingos completely overwhelmed their opponents early on.
Nigeria’s relentless attacking pressure paid off again in the 37th minute when FC Robo Queens striker Oluwakemi Adegbuyi made it 3-0.
Three minutes later, Chidi completed her hat-trick with a composed finish to crown an outstanding first-half display by the Nigerian side.
The Flamingos maintained their dominance after the break and added a fifth goal in the 56th minute through Mary Dunstan to seal an emphatic victory.
The result gives Nigeria a huge advantage heading into next weekend’s return leg in Ikenne-Remo as the Flamingos move closer to qualification for the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
