Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is reportedly in advanced discussions with Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal over a free transfer at the end of the season, according to TEAMtalk.
The Dutch international, whose contract with Liverpool expires in six months, has been a cornerstone of Jurgen Klopp’s team. Despite being 33 years old, Van Dijk remains one of the Premier League’s top defenders and a key factor behind Liverpool’s current position at the top of the table.
Journalist Ahmed Al-Ajlan claims that Al-Hilal has opened “serious negotiations” to secure Van Dijk’s services in the summer.
“Serious negotiations have begun with Liverpool’s Dutch defender Van Dijk to sign him next summer before the [Club] World Cup in America,” Al-Ajlan revealed on X (formerly Twitter).
“According to sources, Al-Hilal president Fahad bin Nafel has already met with the player’s agent in London.”
This development could represent a major loss for Liverpool, especially with recent reports linking other key players like Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez to Al-Hilal. While Van Dijk has shown no explicit signs of wanting to leave, the possibility of a Saudi Arabian move would be a significant twist in the Dutchman’s illustrious career.
Liverpool are reportedly pushing to renew Van Dijk’s contract, but with Al-Hilal making strong overtures, the defender’s future remains uncertain.
