Chelsea’s new signing Geovany Quenda says he is eager to begin his journey at Stamford Bridge after completing his £40 million move from Sporting CP, promising to give everything to help the Blues win trophies.
The 19-year-old winger has signed an eight-year contract with the Premier League giants, becoming the second signing under new head coach Xabi Alonso following the arrival of Atalanta full-back Marco Palestra in a £42 million deal.
Although Quenda’s move was agreed as early as March 2025 during Enzo Maresca’s tenure, the Portugal Under-21 international has now officially completed his switch to west London.
Capable of playing as a winger, attacking midfielder or wing-back, Quenda is expected to join Alonso’s first-team squad immediately.
‘It feels great to be here’
The teenager has reportedly spent the week training at Chelsea’s Cobham base ahead of the squad’s return for pre-season.
Speaking after his unveiling, Quenda expressed his excitement at joining one of England’s biggest clubs.
“It feels great to be here,” Quenda said.
“Chelsea is a great team, and I am excited to play here at Stamford Bridge. The club has shown faith in players like me, and I am proud to be here, proud to be part of this club.
“I am excited to work with my teammates and the manager, Xabi Alonso.
“I’m a very hard-working young person, and I like to help my team. I want to be someone known for having the right mentality to help my teammates and who does their best for the club to win trophies.”
A rising star from Sporting
Quenda leaves Sporting after making 86 senior appearances, including 16 in the UEFA Champions League, having established himself in the first team under former Sporting coach Ruben Amorim.
The highly rated youngster is regarded as one of Portugal’s brightest prospects and will now look to continue his rapid development under Alonso as Chelsea prepare for the new Premier League season.
