Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong is on the verge of completing a transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al-Khalood from Greek club PAOK FC.
The Nigerian defender, accompanied by his agent David Moss, was spotted en route to Saudi Arabia to finalize the deal, which has been in the works for weeks.
Troost-Ekong, who joined PAOK during the 2023 summer transfer window on a three-year deal, has attracted significant interest from Saudi clubs eager to secure his services. According to reports, a transfer fee of €1.2 million ($1.3 million) has been agreed between PAOK and Al-Khalood, with personal terms also settled. The 30-year-old defender is expected to sign a two-year contract with an option for an additional year.
Troost-Ekong’s move follows his standout performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, where he was named Player of the Tournament as Nigeria finished as runners-up. His stellar form under Nigeria’s coach Jose Peseiro has made him a sought-after player in the Arabian football scene.
The transfer marks a significant moment in Troost-Ekong’s career, as Al-Khalood, recently promoted to the Saudi Pro League, aims to bolster their squad with his experience and leadership. The final stages of the deal are expected to be completed soon, with an official announcement anticipated in the coming hours.
