Tottenham captain Son Heung-min has criticised his team’s lack of concentration following their 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Sunday, a result that has intensified pressure on Ange Postecoglou.
Spurs took the lead through Richarlison’s first-half goal, but Jamie Vardy’s equalizer and Bilal El Khannouss’ winner sealed the comeback for Leicester, leaving Tottenham languishing in 15th place in the Premier League, just eight points above the relegation zone.
The defeat marked Tottenham’s sixth loss in their last seven league games, further souring the mood among the fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Postecoglou’s decision to substitute Richarlison was met with jeers, while calls for chairman Daniel Levy to step down echoed through the stands as frustration mounted.
Son did not hold back in his post-match assessment, describing the performance as unacceptable. “It is very painful, especially when you’re winning at half-time and then conceding two goals in a short period. It let us down and made for a very frustrating afternoon,” the South Korean said.
Son pointed to lapses in focus as the key issue. “We can’t just blame tiredness because we had just come out for the second half. Maybe it was a little bit sloppy, but it’s simply a lack of concentration. In the Premier League, any team can punish us for that,” he explained.
He also highlighted poor decision-making in critical moments. “It was not good enough. Sometimes we made the wrong decisions at the final moment. It’s very disappointing to not get three points and to concede goals like this.”
The prospect of Tottenham being dragged into a relegation battle is becoming a real fear for fans, who haven’t seen their club in the second tier since the 1977-78 season.
When asked if relegation was a concern, Son expressed cautious optimism but acknowledged the severity of their current situation. “It is definitely not good enough. We’ve had way too many losses, but there are still a lot of games left, and we’ll have a lot of players coming back.”
The loss has left Postecoglou’s position hanging by a thread as Tottenham fans demand significant changes to reverse the club’s dismal trajectory.
