President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sent a congratulatory message to the Nigerian football under-20 team for their victory over the Argentinian national side.
The under-20 Nigerian football team, fondly called the flying eagles, overcame the intimidation of the home crowd to defeat the Argentines by 2-0 to secure a quarterfinal place at the Under-20 World Cup.
The Ladan Bosso’s boys, unfazed by the booing and chants from the fans of the home side, opened scoring from the feet of Ibrahim Muhammad on 61 minutes before Rilwanu Sarki made it 2-0 in the first minute of the added time to send Argentina’s squad parking.
President Tinubu tweeted, “I congratulate our marvellous Flying Eagles for that sound 2-0 defeat of the host team, Argentina, to secure a quarterfinal slot at the U-20 World Cup. I’m rooting for you guys; go and make us proud!”
