Newcastle urged to ‘break bank’ for Victor Osimhen

Former England international Chris Waddle has urged Newcastle United to prioritise the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Waddle described Osimhen as one of the most complete forwards in Europe and believes the Super Eagles star would transform Newcastle’s attack.

“He would elevate every team in the Premier League,” Waddle said.

“He is a very consistent, dynamic player with absolute dominance in the air and high technical ability. I would love to see him as Newcastle’s new number nine.”

Osimhen shines in Turkey

Osimhen has enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Galatasaray S.K., emerging among Europe’s top scorers and playing a decisive role in the club’s 26th Turkish Super Lig title triumph.

The Nigerian striker’s performances have continued to attract interest from several top European clubs.

Newcastle told to act quickly

Waddle, while assessing Newcastle’s current squad, noted that the void left by former striker Alexander Isak following his move to Liverpool last summer has not been properly filled.

The former Newcastle winger called on the club’s hierarchy to move quickly for Osimhen, praising the striker’s mentality and relentless work ethic.

“I really like Osimhen’s style,” Waddle added.

“I had the chance to watch him five or six times in Turkey this season, and I was literally amazed by his work ethic. He is a player who desperately wants to win, leaves no stone unturned on the pitch and never shies away from challenges.”

‘Premier League level’ striker

Waddle admitted he was surprised Osimhen moved to Turkey but insisted the striker possesses the quality to thrive at the highest level in the Premier League.

“Honestly, his move to Turkey surprised me a lot. I know he is cherished there, but I think his level is definitely far above the Turkish League,” he said.

The English football legend also believes several elite clubs would compete for Osimhen’s signature if he becomes available this summer.

“He would elevate any team in the Premier League. He is a very consistent, mobile player with absolute dominance in the air and high technical capacity,” Waddle said.

“If he were on the market today, at least five other giant clubs besides Newcastle would line up for him.

“Considering that footballers’ most productive period is between ages 28 and 30, he still has a great opportunity ahead to experience his peak years in the Premier League.”
