Aston Villa have completed the loan signing of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford until the end of the season, with an option to buy for £40 million.
The 27-year-old England international had been seeking a move away from Old Trafford, and Villa have agreed to cover at least 75% of his wages, potentially rising to 90% based on performance-related clauses.
Writing on Instagram, Rashford expressed his gratitude to both clubs for facilitating the deal.
“I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me, but Aston Villa was an easy decision. I really admire the way they’ve been playing this season and the manager’s ambitions. I just want to play football and am excited to get started,” he said.
Rashford had hinted at a desire for a fresh start after being dropped for the Manchester derby in December, stating he was “ready for a new challenge.”
Villa, who are also close to signing Spain international Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, have been active in the January transfer window.
They have already secured Spanish full-back Andres Garcia from Levante and Netherlands forward Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund while selling Colombia striker Jhon Durán to Al-Nassr for £71m and centre-back Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce for around £8.45m.
