Man United complete €30m signing of Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu

Manchester United have announced the signing of Denmark international Patrick Dorgu on a permanent transfer from Serie A side Lecce, marking a record sale for the Italian club.

Dorgu has signed a long-term, four-and-a-half-year contract with United, keeping him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2030. The Premier League giants reportedly paid €30 million, with an additional €7.5 million in potential bonuses and add-ons, to secure the highly rated 20-year-old.

The transfer makes Dorgu Lecce’s most expensive sale in history, surpassing the €20 million received from Sporting CP for Morten Hjulmand in 2023. Having initially joined Lecce for just €200,000 in 2022, the young full-back has seen a meteoric rise in his career.

Expressing his excitement, Dorgu said via Manchester United’s official website:
“I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my whole family.

“I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim; his vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting. There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and achieve my ambitions.”

Technical director Jason Wilcox hailed Dorgu’s arrival, highlighting his potential:
“Patrick is a really exciting talent; his strong defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability, and work rate will make him a key part of Ruben Amorim’s squad.

“At just 20, we know he will continue to develop under the guidance of our excellent coaching team. He is the latest exciting young player we have brought into the club, and we believe he has world-class potential.”

Dorgu becomes United’s first signing of the January transfer window and the first permanent addition under new manager Ruben Amorim. While he has joined ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday, he is not expected to feature in the matchday squad.

Dorgu has already made an impact on the international stage. After progressing through Denmark’s youth ranks, he made his senior debut in September’s UEFA Nations League match against Switzerland, coming on as a late substitute and scoring with his first touch in a 2-0 victory.

United fans will be eager to see how the promising full-back adapts to English football under Amorim’s guidance.
