Newcastle United have secured a massive profit following Anthony Gordon’s €80 million move to Barcelona, turning a €45.6 million investment into one of the club’s most lucrative transfer deals in recent years.

Barcelona confirmed the signing of the England winger on Friday, with the La Liga champions handing the 25-year-old a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2031.

The transfer means Newcastle will bank more than €34 million above the fee they paid Everton for Gordon in 2023, while the overall package could rise to approximately €40 million in profit through performance-related add-ons.

Barcelona Beat Bayern To Gordon’s Signature

The deal gained momentum in recent days as Barcelona and Newcastle worked toward an agreement.

German giants Bayern Munich also held formal discussions with Newcastle but were unwilling to match the Premier League club’s valuation of the player.

The final fee significantly exceeds Gordon’s estimated market value of €60 million and represents a major piece of business for Newcastle’s hierarchy.

Reward For Outstanding Season

Gordon arrives at Camp Nou after the most productive campaign of his career.

The England international scored 17 goals across all competitions for Newcastle, including 10 in the UEFA Champions League, finishing as the club’s leading scorer.

His performances attracted interest from several top European clubs. Still, Barcelona moved quickly to complete the transfer before Gordon departs for the United States with England’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Childhood Dream Comes True

Speaking during his presentation at Spotify Camp Nou, Gordon revealed that joining Barcelona had been a lifelong ambition.

“I was excited to play for Barca since I was three years of age,” Gordon said in Spanish.

“I wanted to speak Spanish because, as a kid, I believed I would play football for Barca. I have a physio in Newcastle, and we spoke every day, and I told him, ‘One day I’ll play for Barca, so I want to learn Spanish.’

“I found out very late about Barcelona’s interest, but as soon as I knew Barca were a serious option, there wasn’t any question.

“Barcelona are the biggest club on the planet. It is something I dreamed about as a child.”

“Very, very excited, though it was kind of hard to wait,” Gordon said.
