Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, are well-rested and eager to take on their Australian counterparts in their first of two friendlies ahead of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

These matches are part of the team’s preparation for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in Colombia from August 31 to September 22.

Following their long journey to Colombia, Falconets coach Chris Danjuma’s squad has been diligently training since Monday in preparation for the crucial August 23 match against Australia. The game will be held at Club Banco de la República in Bogota at 10:00 AM Colombia time (4:00 PM Nigeria time).

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has assured fans that all arrangements for the encounter are finalized. To bolster their team, Coach Danjuma has incorporated several players who have experience with the senior national team, the Super Falcons. These include defenders Jumoke Alani, Rofiat Imuran, Comfort Folorunsho, and forwards Opeyemi Ajakaye, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, and Flourish Sabastine.

Folorunsho and Ajakaye were part of the U17 squad that secured a third-place finish at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup two years ago in India. Joining them from that team are goalkeeper Faith Omilana and forward Aminat Omowunmi Bello.

While these experienced players form the core of the Falconets, young talents like defender Shukurat Oladipo, midfielder Chioma Olise, captain Oluchi Ohaegbulam, and forward Juliet Akekoromowei add a spark of excitement and fuel high expectations for the team’s performance.

Following their match against Australia, the Falconets will face Mexico in another friendly at the same venue on Monday.

The Falconets are also scheduled to face Mexico in another friendly match at the same venue on Monday, as they continue to prepare for the World Cup.
