Fabinho downplays Salah’s £150m move to Al Ittihad

Former Liverpool defensive midfielder Fabinho has rubbished reports linking former teammate Mohamed Salah with a big money move to Saudi Arabia side Al Ittihad.

The 30-year-old Brazilian midfielder left Merseyside in the summer to join Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad and has now become an integral part of the team.

Al Ittihad had tabled a huge £150million offer, but the Reds have rejected it, a sign that they are not willing to sell their star striker.

Salah’s contract at Liverpool runs until June 2025, with Al Ittihad still holding a keen interest in signing the Egyptian striker.

The 31-year-old Egyptian star is Liverpool’s top scorer this season with his 14 goals helping them to top spot in the Premier League.

He recently scored his landmark 200th goal for the club, the fifth player in Liverpool’s history to reach the tally, with the double-centurion cementing his status as an all-time Anfield legend in the process.

Speaking to talkSPORT after Al Ittihad’s 3-0 victory over Auckland City on Tuesday night in the FIFA Club World Cup, Fabinho said: “At this moment Mo Salah is happy at Liverpool.

“He’s scoring goals every game and he has been their best player. I’m very happy for Mo.

“This season he will stay at Liverpool so I wish him all the best and hope he keeps scoring goals and winning trophies with Liverpool.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp earlier this season said he was amazed by Salah’s physical condition, saying he has the body of a 19-year-old despite being in his 13th year as a professional footballer.
