This clash echoes their 2023 U20 AFCON meeting, where Senegal edged Nigeria 1-0 en route to claiming their first title. But the Flying Eagles hold fond memories of their 2015 triumph over Senegal on home soil — a 3-1 win in the group opener and a 1-0 win in the final to secure their seventh title.
Zubairu confident
Coach Zubairu admits the contest has all the makings of a final, given the high stakes and the fierce footballing rivalry between both countries.
“It’s like a final. We know what’s at stake, and we’re ready to give it everything,” he said. “The rivalry with Senegal only makes it more intense.”
