Cristiano Ronaldo will have to wait longer for his first Saudi Pro League title after Al Nassr conceded a late own goal in a 1-1 draw against Al Hilal on Tuesday.

Second-placed Al Hilal rescued a point in Riyadh when Al Nassr goalkeeper Bento fumbled a long throw-in into his own net in the eighth minute of added time, leaving Ronaldo and the home fans stunned.

Al Nassr appeared seconds away from sealing a crucial victory before the bizarre equaliser dealt a major blow to their title celebrations.

“The dream is close,” the 41-year-old Ronaldo wrote on X to his 107.5 million followers after the match.

“Heads up, we have one more step to take! Thank you all for the amazing support tonight!”

Despite the setback, Al Nassr remain five points clear of Al Hilal with one league match remaining, although their rivals still have a game in hand.

Ronaldo’s side can still clinch the Saudi Pro League title when they face Damac FC next week.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward is yet to win a domestic league title since moving to Saudi Arabia in 2023 on a lucrative contract.

Ronaldo’s arrival sparked massive global interest in Saudi football and paved the way for several superstar signings, including Neymar and Karim Benzema.
