Chisora confident Tyson Fury will return to fight Anthony Joshua

Heavyweight contender Derek Chisora believes former two-time world champion Tyson Fury will come out of retirement for a highly anticipated showdown with Anthony Joshua.

Chisora, the 41-year-old Zimbabwean-British boxer, secured a unanimous decision victory over Otto Wallin on Saturday in Manchester. Following his win, he expressed confidence that Fury would eventually return to the ring, despite announcing his retirement in January after his December defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.

Since Fury’s announcement, speculation has swirled about whether the ‘Gypsy King’ is truly stepping away from the sport. Chisora, a former opponent of Fury, is convinced the 36-year-old will stage another comeback—this time to face Anthony Joshua.

After his victory over Wallin, Chisora named three potential opponents for his 50th and final fight: Daniel Dubois, Usyk, and Joshua. However, he doubts a fight with ‘AJ’ will happen, as he expects the former unified champion to take on Fury instead.

“I need something big. I think I’ve earned something big,” Chisora said. “Who knows? Right now, AJ is healing after the defeat to Daniel Dubois. He’s not ready yet. When he’s ready, I think he’ll come back—not to fight me, but to fight the ‘Gypsy King’.”

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, recently stated that if Fury decides to return and face Joshua, he must change his decision in the next few weeks.

“None of us know what Fury will do next, but if we are to see the fight in the summer, he would probably have to come out of retirement in the next three or four weeks. After that, the summer gets difficult for a fight of this size. The future? Hopefully […] I think he will be back, but it’s in his hands.”

While Chisora weighs his next move, the boxing world eagerly awaits confirmation on whether Fury will return to face Anthony Joshua in what could be one of the biggest British heavyweight clashes in history.
