Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri is set to join French club Marseille on loan for the remainder of the season, according to BBC reports.

The England Under-21 international has already agreed on personal terms with the Ligue 1 side.

Nwaneri was not initially expected to go out on loan this season, as both player and club felt he would benefit from being part of a squad challenging for a title.

However, the prospect of regular game time in another league and country proved appealing.

The 18-year-old has made just 12 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions this season, starting four games but none in the Premier League, and scoring once in the Carabao Cup.

Nwaneri, who signed a new contract in the summer running until 2030, has seen his pathway to the first team limited by the arrivals of Noni Madueke (£48.5m) and Eberechi Eze (£67m).

Last season, Nwaneri featured mostly on the right wing, scoring nine goals in 37 appearances, marking him out as one of England’s most talented young prospects.

With Madueke first choice as back-up to Bukayo Saka and Eze challenging Martin Ødegaard for the number 10 role, Nwaneri has found opportunities hard to come by.

The loan move to Marseille offers him the chance to gain valuable first-team experience while continuing his development.
