We are changing security strategies, Buhari

President Muhamamdu Buhari on Wednesday, said his administration is changing security strategies to deal with the nation’s security challenges.

The President stated this on Wednesday while receiving report from Course 40 participants of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru, Jos, Plateau state.

The Course 40 group had submitted the reports which this year, centered on recommendations on Community Policing in Nigeria.

The President who did not specify the new strategies his administration was adopting to tackle the myriad of security challenges facing the nation, assured that “government will study the recommendations very closely. Coming at the time when we are changing the security strategies”

The group was given the responsibilities in November 2017 by President Buhari to come up with recommendations that will strengthen the nation’s internal security framework through community policing by proposing borders, policy offence and strategy.

The President said the decision of government was borne out of sincere desire to find sustainable solutions to the many security challenges inherited by this administration.

“These challenges not only threaten the security of lives and property of our people but also the sovereignty, territory integrity of our country.

“We are confronted by Boko Haram insurgency in the North East worrisome conflict with respect to farmers and herdsmen which has resulted in wanton destruction of lives and property across the country. Further more there is the crisis of separatist agitation in the South East, militancy in the South South.

He declared that government is convinced that these security challenges are rooted in both internal and external factors.

“Most importantly, government is also convinced that finding sustainable solutions to these challenges, will equire the support and collaboration of security agencies and communities.

On the issue of funding, President Buhari said he has mandated the ministry of budget and National planning to work towards providing necessary funding for the institute
