Tribunal upholds Governor Ododo’s victory as Kogi governor

Ododo assents that 6 bills describe a new set of laws as people’s legislation

The Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal has upheld the victory of Governor Usman Ododo in the gubernatorial election held on November 11, 2023.

The tribunal, sitting in Abuja on Monday, dismissed the petition filed by Murtala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, challenging the election results.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Ododo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the election amid allegations of rigging and vote-buying. Ajaka and the SDP filed a petition contesting the election outcome, alleging irregularities and electoral malpractices.

The tribunal had scheduled its judgment for May 27, 2024, following the adoption of final written addresses by the parties involved. In its judgment, the tribunal ruled against Ajaka, thereby affirming Ododo’s victory.
