President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recorded a landslide victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election in Kano State on Saturday, securing overwhelming support from party members across the state’s 484 political wards.
The exercise, conducted through the party’s direct primary system ahead of the 2027 general election, was reported to have proceeded peacefully across the state, with thousands of APC members participating in the accreditation and voting process.
At Diso Ward in Gwale Local Government Area, one of the state’s largest voting centres, APC members queued under intense sunshine as officials carried out accreditation and headcounts in an orderly manner.
Announcing the result for the ward, Chairman of the Presidential Primary Election Committee, Ibrahim Muhammad Abdullahi, declared President Tinubu the winner with 5,277 votes, while his challenger, Stanley Osifo, failed to secure any vote.
Speaking after the exercise, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who participated as an agent for President Tinubu, commended party members for maintaining peace and discipline throughout the process.
He described the turnout and the outcome of the primary as a demonstration of confidence in the President’s leadership and policies.
According to the governor, the result reflects the readiness of party supporters to back Tinubu for a second term in office, citing ongoing economic reforms and development initiatives being pursued by the administration.
He also praised members and electoral officials for conducting the exercise peacefully despite the challenging weather conditions.
Meanwhile, collation of results from other wards was ongoing as APC officials moved to conclude the state-wide primary exercise. Party leaders expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the poll, describing it as a reflection of the party’s internal democratic process ahead of the next presidential election.
