Ribadu demands public apology from Naja’atu Muhammad over social media comments

FG to establish security directorate for Niger Delta – Ribadu

Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser (NSA), has demanded a public apology and retraction from Naja’atu Muhammad, the leader of Northern Star, over an alleged malicious comment on TikTok.

The demand came through a letter sent to Muhammad on Tuesday by Ahmed Raji, who serves as Ribadu’s lawyer. The dispute centres on a TikTok video where Muhammad made several claims about Ribadu’s past statements.

In the video, Muhammad alleged that during his time as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ribadu had spoken against the character of three prominent politicians: President Bola Tinubu, George Akume (now minister of special duties), and Orji Kalu (currently senator for Abia north). According to Muhammad, these comments were made when the three men were serving as state governors.

Muhammad went on to criticise Ribadu for now working in a government led by people he had previously criticised. However, through his lawyer Raji, Ribadu strongly denied ever making such statements about any of these politicians.

Raji stated that Muhammad’s allegations had caused “unquantifiable” damage to Ribadu’s reputation and challenged her to provide evidence for her claims.

The letter demands that Muhammad must “retract the said publication and tender an unreserved public apology to him in at least 5 [five] national daily newspapers within 7 [seven] days of receipt of this letter.”

It concludes with a warning that failure to comply will result in legal action: “If not, we have our client’s further instructions to seek redress against you in a court of law where exemplary damages will be claimed against you. Kindly be advised.”
